Educate For Life
Each year, the BBHI awards three $1500 scholarships to Delaware high school seniors pursuing further education at accredited colleges and universities, in the fields of education or healthcare. One scholarship is awarded in each of Delaware's three counties. Our scholarship fund is named in honor and memory of our beloved board member, Julianne E. Hammond, Esq.
We are pleased to announce the 2010 recipients. This year's winners each wrote excellent essays on how they would encourage others to adopt healthy lifestyles through their future career plans. We are very proud of their accomplishments, and wish them every success in their future endeavors.
This year's recipients are:
- Monica Johnson, New Castle County: Monica attends the Charter School of Wilmington. She is studying pre-med with a major in biology.
- Tashai Thompson, Kent County: Tashai attends Dover High School. Her career goal is to become an OB/GYN.
- Kaci Coveleski, Sussex County: Kaci attends Cape Henlopen High School with plans to become a pharmacist.
In November of 2010, all Delaware high school guidance counselors will receive information on the application process and essay topic. Senior students who will be pursuing their education in the health care or educational field should contact their guidance department for more information.
To be considered for a scholarship, interested students submit an application form and provide BBHI with a 250 word essay on the specified topic. This essay, along with the application, the student’s high school transcript, and list of extra curricular activities, needs to be submitted to BBHI by March 31, 2011.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at (302) 658-1545.
Educate for Life Fundraiser: Standing Room Only
On October 30, 2009, BBHI held its 6th annual Educate for Life fundraising event. David Dietz, owner of the BBC Tavern and Grill in Greenville, hosted an evening of great food, drink and conversation for a standing room only crowd. Supporters of the event purchased raffle tickets for a 42" flat panel HD TV. This Educate for Life event benefits the Julianne E. Hammond Educate for Life Scholarship Fund.
Since 2001, the talented staff of Chez Nicole in Wilmington, Delaware donate their services by providing manicures, pedicures and haircuts in a day long event to benefit BBHI.
